Carmichael Residence Hall

Carmichael Residence Hall at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill is a dormitory for 500 hundred students, including recreational center, assembly space, snack bar, post office and administrative spaces.  The process of design for this facility represented the University’s first approach at collaborative design with students.  Information charettes with student representatives determined many of the design features and the formal organizational concept.  Each floor contains communities of 20 rooms housing 40 students.  Each community has a central living area, private group and individual study and meeting areas, kitchens and other facilities.
