Refinement of our continuing exploration of the contemporary application of Southern Vernacular forms to modern design (especially in relation to passive solar design and energy conservation) has substantial meaning to southern architecture.

 

Vernacular dogtrot and shotgun forms are ideal for natural cross ventilation substantially reducing reliance on hvac systems. Broad eaves and overhangs control summer sun while allowing winter sun into occupied spaces.

 

Combining no nonsense vernacular concepts, passive solar techniques and water-to-water geothermal heat pump systems results in an innovative combination of energy conservation, economy of materials and minimalist design.
