Recycled Materials in Architecture

Here lie the material resources for the renovation of the Watkins Street Lofts. Robert Cain and his partners purchased and, with limited funds, formulated methods for redeveloping the property. Those methods relied on their professional resources as architect and contractor, newly-developed skills as leasing agents and property managers, large amounts of sweat equity and upon the considerable savings found in building materials purchased from building demolition companies and salvage yards throughout the city.

Most of the spaces were constructed on a design-build basis with the partnership providing building shell renovations and services to each space and the tenant funding interior build-out in return for lease rates considerably lower than market rates.
