| Waldorf School of Atlanta RMCA’s master plans for K through high school Waldorf campuses embrace principles of education developed by Dr. Rudolf Steiner, the creator and guiding force behind the Waldorf School movement. In addition to educational systems, Dr. Steiner created original architectural theories and forms representative of his philosophies, and his lectures on color theory influenced the role of color in music, dance, film and architecture. At Waldorf “children are encouraged to grow and mature in their own individual ways. Learning is a dynamic process that engages students with a rich sensory experience in an aesthetically pleasing environment”. The organization of the Waldorf master plans accommodates structures designed to consciously and rationally define space specifically for the spiritual reinforcement and expression of the particular activities to take place within them. RMCA has worked with the Waldorf School of Atlanta and Academe of the Oaks, a Waldorf High School, on a variety of projects over the last 15 years. Major projects include: 1. Master Plan for a new K-8 and High School campus for a 12 acre site in Decatur Georgia (image 1, in association with the Epsten Group). 2. Campus Master Plan for a new K-6 and adaptive rehabilitation of an existing house to a kindergarten (image 2, in association with Jones Pierce Architects). 3. Rezoning, Master Plan and adaptive rehabilitation of existing office and industrial buildings to Academe of the Oaks, a High School campus in Decatur Georgia (image 3). |
